A new fashion trend has emerged in Japan called the “lolita fashion”. The word “lolita” itself means “little princess” but it is used to describe a totally different style of dress. Basically this new type of fashion trend is about the combination of cute flower girl dresses with adult style skirts. Many people see it as the new flower girl dress, which has grown from the traditional flower girl dress with its long skirt, combined with a short blouse and perhaps some high heel shoes.
The trend has been inspired partly by Visual Kei bands who brought the art of porcelain doll making into the normal everyday lives of young girls. The flower girl dress is designed so that the young lady can wear it to school, or maybe out shopping with friends. The short skirts add the perfect touch to make the outfit look ultra-feminine. The most common colors chosen for the dresses are shades of pink and white, although there are some who like to wear the color white with black or red socks. Black high heel shoes with pink socks are also very popular.
A very important aspect of the lolita style is the use of rococo shoes. The use of such footwear is especially critical as in Japan, rococo is a term for the wooden slippers which were once made in the 1700’s from turtle shell. This art of making wooden slippers is one of the main reasons that the lolita style dresses have such a unique look and feel. The use of rococo shoes is a key aspect of this new type of fashion.
